Yash Raj Films launched Raah Records this August. The new music label and artist incubator focuses strictly on original musicians operating outside the traditional film music sector. This move signals a deliberate expansion for the entertainment studio, aiming to find and develop independent talent.
Raah Records operates under the direction of Nakul Sharma, the Senior General Manager of Music Management at Yash Raj Films. The label prioritizes long-term career building over short-term release campaigns. The company offers emerging musicians support in songwriting, production, creative direction, and audience growth. Through its incubator model, the label works closely with artists behind the scenes before taking their music to the commercial market. Akshaye Widhani, CEO of Yash Raj Films, stated that independent artists require time, belief, and creative partnership rather than simple distribution.
A Year of Preparation for Aman
The label marked its official launch with singer-songwriter Aman. His debut single, “Jaadugari,” arrived on audio streaming platforms on August 5, 2026. This release is the direct result of a year-long creative collaboration within the Raah Records incubator.
Sharma emphasized that artists need trust and space to grow into their existing identities. He noted that “Jaadugari” represents a fitting start for both Aman and the new label. Providing an artist with a full year of development before a debut single demonstrates a high level of corporate patience. It shows a commitment to refining an artist’s specific voice before demanding commercial returns.
Building Your Own Foundation
For musical artists, this development provides a clear view of how major entertainment companies now value original music. A film studio historically reliant on blockbuster soundtracks is actively investing in the independent sector. They are looking for distinct voices capable of sustaining long-term careers.
You build that distinct voice by releasing music consistently and studying your audience. You do not need a major studio incubator to start this process. The infrastructure to reach listeners already exists. By using distribution services like TuneCore, DistroKid, Madverse, Horus Music, or Ziddi, you push your original tracks to global platforms on your own schedule. You control your creative direction and retain your master rights while testing what works for your audience.
Major labels and incubators enter the independent space to partner with artists who already understand their sound and their listeners. Treating your current independent releases as your own personal incubator prepares you for the exact type of long-term partnership companies like Raah Records are trying to build.
