YouTube has opened applications for the 2026 edition of its global “Foundry” program, an artist development initiative designed to support independent musicians building audiences on the platform.

The application window opened on February 25, 2026, and will run until March 25, with an extended deadline of April 30 for artists in India and South Korea. The program targets independent artists planning new releases, particularly those preparing to launch music videos on YouTube.

The announcement highlights YouTube’s continued effort to position itself as a key platform for artist discovery and career development in the global music industry.

What the Foundry Program Offers

Launched in 2015, Foundry is YouTube Music’s flagship program for supporting independent artists. The initiative provides selected musicians with funding, mentorship, marketing support, and strategic guidance to help them grow their careers on the platform.

Artists chosen for the program typically receive seed funding for music and video projects, dedicated support from a YouTube partner manager, marketing and promotional opportunities across YouTube, access to new platform tools and product features, and educational resources and mentorship from industry teams.

The program places a strong emphasis on artists who use visual storytelling, reflecting YouTube’s role as both a music streaming platform and a video-first ecosystem for artist discovery.

Eligibility and Application Criteria

The program is specifically designed for independent musicians. Artists signed directly to major record labels are not eligible, though those working with independent labels or distributors can apply.

Applicants are expected to demonstrate active momentum on the platform, including building an audience on YouTube and planning upcoming releases during the program period.

Selected artists will participate in a campaign activation period between May and September 2026, during which they receive promotional support and development resources.

A Global Program With a Proven Track Record

Over the past decade, the Foundry initiative has helped launch the careers of numerous global artists. Since its launch, the program has supported more than 250 artists worldwide, including names such as ROSALÍA, Arlo Parks, Clairo, girl in red, and Tems.

The program has also increasingly highlighted emerging artists from India. In the Foundry Class of 2025, YouTube selected three Indian musicians: Pragati Nagpal, Tanishka Bahl, and experimental hip-hop artist Chaar Diwaari.

These artists receive guidance on channel strategy, promotional support for releases, and opportunities to connect with global audiences.

Expanding Support for Early-Stage Artists

Alongside the main program, YouTube has also introduced Foundry Rising, a newer initiative designed to support artists at even earlier stages of their careers.

This program provides micro-grants and platform education to help emerging musicians activate their YouTube channels and begin building momentum online.

The expansion reflects YouTube’s broader strategy to compete with streaming platforms like Spotify and Apple Music in the area of artist development and discovery.

Why Programs Like Foundry Matter

For independent musicians, initiatives like Foundry can play a significant role in career growth. Beyond financial support, the program offers access to marketing resources and global exposure that can be difficult for emerging artists to achieve independently.

YouTube remains one of the largest platforms for music discovery globally, particularly for artists who build audiences through music videos, live performances, and visual storytelling.

For independent artists releasing music through distributors such as Ziddi or other digital platforms, programs like Foundry represent an opportunity to amplify their reach and connect with international audiences through one of the world’s largest video platforms.

As the global music industry continues to shift toward creator-driven ecosystems, initiatives that combine funding, mentorship, and platform promotion are becoming increasingly important for the next generation of artists.
